After all of the usual formalities at the border I was legally allowed into Ecuador and along with 4 others was on a bus heading for a smallish town 2 hours north of Ecuadorian capital. Otavalo is famed for its ever day market but attracts the most tourists and is biggest on a Saturday when residents from the surrounding areas come to trade their wares ranging from kittens guinea pigs and cow

On May 2nd we headed across the Cook Straight by ferry to Picton. The ferry journey was surprisingly calm Laura still managed to get queasy but it really could have been a lot worse. I spent the weekend at a little place called Home Port Farm. It was a nice little farm out in the countryside surrounding the city of Whangarei and home to a very nice couple Cathy and Howard. I got lost a few times getting there and had to make a few calls to them in order to figure out where it was that I was actually going but in the end Howard was standing out on the driveway waiting for my

Ribadiso AlbergueThe evening at Ribadiso turned into a bit of a nightmare. The albergue seemed to have settled down around 10.30pm and all was quiet until a few well lubricated individuals returned to the dormitory just before 1.00am. Unlike conventional buildings where it would have been possible to close and lock the door at the designated closing time this albergue is based on a collecti

We flew into Lima on Sunday yesterday and spent the day wandering around the city. Lima is poor and run down but set against the vast sea of dingy partially costructed cement dwellings are the remenants of a few old yet beautiful colonial structures. The highlight of Lima was the amazing seafood and for this I dont regret making th

4th May 2010PORT GREGORYToday I was playing in the park and I went back to the bus because Mum and Dad said that it was time to go. While I was playing they got the tyre off the front of the bus and they put it on the place where the flat tyre was. After the tyre was fixed we went down to the sea.We tried to catch fish off the jetty except all we caught were seaweed fish.

I had an interesting journey from Bangkok airport to the hostel to meet Anette. I met a German girl getting off the plane I quickly suggested to her that sharing a taxi would be a good idea to save cash if she was heading to my part of town. She agreed we purchased a bottle of rum each from duty free and then joined the taxi queue.
