Corby is a man of many voices. He can go very bird-like when he really gets into his laughing. He can get very chris chris like when he tells us how he’s done everything and been surrounded by beautiful women for the last 20 years of his life

Volunteering at Casa Guatemala I’ve always contemplated volunteering abroad, but never found anything that truly fit my interests or price range. In January, my father embarked on a 6-week work trip to Belize, Honduras and Guatemala. He was particularly enthralled by his visit to Casa Guatemala, a school in Rio Dulce, which also serves as a home to several Guatemalan orphans

British Airways has fought quite a few internal battles in 2010, and today a scandal involving one of its internal publications will escalate the list of headaches for the airline. Since December 2008, BA has been in a locked dispute with its flight attendants and Unite over compensation, working conditions, and benefits, and the situation may be a catalyst for the event that occurred most recently. A publication for BA’s workers at London Heathrow , called LHR News, ran a photo of an electronic boarding pass to illustrate the benefits of the mobile boarding setup, urging travelers to print out boarding passes before they fly

The travel writer was commenting at a recent literary festival on the changes he’s seen in his adopted country. The BBC quotes Bryson : “When I first came to Britain it really was all about fair play and queuing… Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a ‘the rules don’t apply to me’ sort of thing.” (Via The Book Bench )

Slate has a lengthy, compelling interview with the writer and No Reservations host, centered around the ideas of “right” and “wrong” in cooking. Here’s Bourdain on food, tradition and authenticity: There’s enormous respect and a romanticized reverence for what’s considered the “right” way—meaning, the classic way—and I think most chefs feel powerfully that one should know that before moving on.

South Africa prepares for World Cup 2010 In preparation for the highly anticipated World Cup, South Africa has done major renovations to public transportation systems and airports. The country has spent billions of dollars updating their networks, and one of the primary improvements is the five story high arrivals hall at Johannesburg ’s international airport. The South African government has spent nearly $700 million on the airport alone – which is Africa’s largest airport, and has doubled its passenger capacity from 17 million a year to 28 million

Jean Hannah Edelstein managed to make me laugh and feel her pain in this essay about her flying phobia . I think about how after the plane crashes, my family and I will be featured in a special issue of People magazine about the tragedy, and other people waiting at airports will sit at airport gates, waiting for delayed flights, biting their nails, and reading about how we all died in the tiny plane’s flaming wreckage.

I knew very little about Guatemala before booking a week-long volunteer trip to Casa Guatemala , an orphanage and school in rural Rio Dulce After arriving in Guatemala City, my visceral reaction was to be intimidated. Stepping out of the airport, cabbies and shuttle drivers all offered me either a ride or a chance to use their cell phones (for a fee of course). Interestingly enough, there was no public telephone at the airport and the only option was to solicit an airport worker or driver.

Now more than ever, travelers need to know how to spot a deal. Right now, the aviation industry is striking a delicate balance. As 2010 began, airlines were off to a good start, but when volcanic ash loomed over Europe, it (quite literally) loomed over the industry’s financial position as well
