An interesting new job-market paper by David Yanagizawa seeks to determine the precise role that RTLM played in the genocide.

The BPS Research Digest blog reports that those dire health warnings on cigarette packs may actually drive some people to smoke. Psychologists interviewed 39 student smokers about the importance of smoking to their self-esteem. The students were then divided into two groups and shown two different sets of cigarette packs – one set with death-related health warnings and one with death-neutral warnings.

American Airlines in Haiti Haiti was hit by the worst earthquake it has seen in over 200 years. Port-au-Prince, its capital, is partly destroyed, with high-rises, hospitals, churches, and parliament buildings crashing to the ground in the 7.0 destruction that was closely followed by aftershocks measuring 5.9 and 5.5. Photo credit/WHDH-TV While the TSA has bumped up security quite a bit in the last few weeks, nothing compares with Boston Logan International Airport’s new innovation: a security robot. It doesn’t look like a traditional robot, it looks more like a small truck, but it will help to detect and disarm explosives, according to WHDH.com . Unveiled yesterday by Massport and the State Police, the robot was invented and assembled by Black-I Robotics , whose co-founder is Brian Hart. Hart’s 20-year old son was killed in an ambush in Iraq, which led his father to devote his time improving security technology to save human lives

Old Jamaican in the Caribbean Sea is a post from: Jamaica Vacations Here is a wonderful set of photos taken from the Negril Cliffs which features one of my favorite Jamaican fisherman out in the early morning as the sun rises on yet another beautiful Jamaica day. I watched this guy fish the local waters off and on for over a year before I settled to take his photo without his permission. I probably could have found him and asked him for it but it was nice to chat with him as he went on about his day completely oblivious to me while I sat and watched him from the seaside cliffs of a Negril resort in amazement at his strength and determination
