Lewis is the sixth player to test positive for performance-enhancing drugs since the NBA began testing ten years ago. The reported drug found in his system was DHEA, which is considered a definite precursor to steroids. Lewis did not think he was taking any type of illegal substance, and clarified that what he took was all purchased over the counter. The suspension will cost him $1.6 million of his $18 million earnings this season. Lewis has already decided to speak out on the subject. “First and foremost I take full responsibility for the situation and accept the corresponding penalty,” said Lewis. “I apologize to Magic fans, my teammates and this organization for not doing the research that should come with good judgment.” Lewis will definitely be back in action when the Magic take on the Boston Celtics at the TD Banknorth Garden Friday, November 20th

PRINT ARTICLE John Smoltz had more than a tough outing last night at Yankee Stadium, letting up nine hits and eight runs in just 3 1/3 innings. The 13-6 New York victory marks their first win all season against the rival Boston Red Sox . Dustin Pedroia gave the Sox the initial lead in the 3rd with a solo homer to right, which was later countered that inning by Johnny Damon with a home run of his own to tie it up. Casey Krotchman supplied an answer for Boston in the top of the 4th with a two run blast off Joba Chamberlin. New York completely dominated the game soon after, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the 4th and holding the lead from there. The run production was mostly contributed by a pair of home runs from Jorge Posada and Melky Cabrera. Despite the lopsided score, Yankees reliever Mark Melancon threw a pitch over Pedroia’s head and later beamed him in the same at bat

f you look at the National League East, you know the beast of the division in the defending World Champion Philadelphia Phillies . They have so much troubles, they can’t seem to choose among who gets the demotion to the pen when former Met Pedro Martinez joins the team. Despite the injuries and all the failed expectations coming out of Citi Field with the Mets , they are still just seven games under the .500 mark . That’s quite a remarkable record considering they have been without Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, and Carlos Delgado for a major portion of the season. With the team in tact last year, they scored 84 more runs than they gave up.

The first game is scheduled for tonight at 7:05 pm with John Smoltz and Joba Chamberlain as the projected starters. Joba Chamberlin is 3-0 with a 0.83 ERA in his three starts since the All-Star break. Collectively the Yankees have been on a tear since then, winning 14 of their last 19 games. Despite their recent success New York still feels the most pressure going into this series, due to the fact that they are 0-8 against their rival opponent Red Sox. Boston is coming off two disappointing losses at Tampa Bay, but manager Terry Francona states that it isn’t the best idea to be concerned. “If we’re concerned about this weekend, I don’t know if we’re going to put our best foot forward [Thursday],” Francona said. “We’re going in and playing a team that probably feels really good about themselves
