In his recent book Authenticity Hoax , Andrew Potter makes a few pot shots at authenticity-hunters — in writing, in art, in marketing, in grocery stores, and yes, in travel. I agreed with some of what he wrote, but felt he fell short on travel.

It’s funny but in all the years that I have lived in New York I have never seen a show at the Fringe Festival. Not that they haven’t sounded interesting I just never had a reason until recently when a dear friend of mine was cast in one of their shows. The show is called Tales From The Tunnel and it is one of the most fulfilling nights in the theatre that I have had in a long time.

Last night I had the opportunity to see a new Broadway show called Million Dollar Quartet . For those of you that are not familiar with the show it is based on the famous 1956 jam session between Jerry Lee Lewis,Carl Perkins,Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. Now going into the show last night I obviously knew a lot of the songs and had heard good things about the show from co-workers and people in the industry

Still, as I write in the Huffington Post, I think people still have many reasons to go to this area. As locals seem to say, with no small resignation that it’s only going to get worse, ’see it while you can.’ Would you still go, even if the beaches were closed
