Pictures from NY Mets game at Citi Field

We were recently in New York City and had the chance to catch a New York Mets game at Citi Field.  Citi Field is the new Mets ballpark that opened at the start of the 2009 baseball season.  Citi Field is a gorgeous baseball field that was built to seat 41k Mets fans, and there is hardly a bad seat in the entire stadium.  It is located in Flushing, New York (near Queens) right next to the location of the former NY Mets ballpark, Shea Stadium. We were guests of our partners, NBC Sports , so we sat in seats right behind the visitors dugout.  The photos below were taken from row 1, which was situated directly above the dugout that the St. Louis Cardinals were in

Yanks bail out Joba, win 10-8

Joba often insists the statistic that concerns him most is the Yankees' record in his starts. All of the numbers associated with Joba's latest stat line were crooked – and legitimate cause for concern – but yet another explosion by the Yankees' lineup and the latest clampdown by a resurgent bullpen rescued their ineffective reliever-turned-starter once again in a dragged-out 10-8 win over Toronto on Sunday at the Stadium. Derek Jeter, named to his 10th All-Star team before the game, totaled four hits – including a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth – as the surging Yanks (48-33) won for the 10th time in 11 games.

Yanks win in 12, Wang hurt

There were flashes of joy for the Yankees Saturday, such as when Joba Chamberlain played the decoy and A.J. Burnett was able to sneak up on Jorge Posada and hit him with a whipped-cream pie in celebration of the catcher's walk-off single in the 12th inning or when they pounded hits off Toronto's best starter, Roy Halladay. But the Yanks' 6-5 victory over the Blue Jays at the Stadium was mostly bittersweet because the strange saga of Chien-Ming Wang's awful year took another twist

    Austin’s New Tree Regulations

Austin takes its trees pretty seriously. This spring the Austin City Council considered rules for how developers can both treat existing trees on a property and quotas for planting future trees. This effort comes through the city’s Watershed Protection Department and would represent the first major change to Austin’s tree rules in 25 years. As reported by the Austin-American Statesman, these rules are part of an ongoing effort to reduce the effects of urban heat islands, which are exactly what they sound like: urban areas dominated by buildings, roads and parking lots that trap heat

Special July fares for RTW tickets

We are now officially halfway through 2009 (don’t ask where the year went – we’re still trying to figure that out ourselves), which also means we’re smack dab in the middle of summer in the northern hemisphere. This being the time when, traditionally, everyone and their brother goes on vacation, it stands to reason that we shouldn’t be surprised by a slight rise in the cost of things like airline tickets or cruises. But we can’t help it, we’re a little surprised

Fines for no health care passes

WASHINGTON – Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama’s top domestic priority. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage.

    Picking Up The Check Talk

Dunham & Rhyner show today had a little discussion about when and when ‘not’, to pick up the check when you’re out to dinner. The part of the audio right before it’s picked up is them talking about how David Beckham invited all of his soccer teammates out for dinner and when the check showed up, he gave the server his credit card and told them to put his $30 something dollars on his card

God of Carnage is a Broadway must-see! 2009 Best New Play Tony Award Winner!

There are plenty of fireworks in this show! The words “savage” and “merciless” don’t normally coexist with “hilarious” and “entertaining”, but that’s exactly what’s currently happening on Broadway where God of Carnage is playing to packed houses. It just extended with this cast thru November 14 th after taking a break July 27 th thru September 7 th . Starting out as a seemingly innocent comedy about two upper middle-class couples trying to work out the problems their children had in a recent fight, only to end 90 minutes later in an all-out, no-holds-barred assault on the very foundations of our civilization

NFL Overtime: Coin Toss, Or No Coin Toss, That Is The Question

I’ve heard countless football fans give excuses of why their team lost in OT and most of the reasoning boils down to the overtime system.  The randomness of the coin toss really leaves a large percentage of the final quarter to luck, however there really haven’t been many viable solutions suggested.  I was reading an article on YardBarker today that really breaks down a new idea of how to run the overtime.  It may seem preposterous at first but, nevertheless it works. The silent auction method involves both coaches deciding where they would accept the ball at the start of overtime.  They slip their decisions into an envelope or something and give it to the refs.  The coach that is willing to accept the ball at the least advantageous field position is granted possession.  So if the Giants are playing the Jets , and Tom Coughlin is willing to accept the ball at his own 15 yard line and Rex Ryan is willing to accept the ball at his own 10, the ball will then be given to the Jets at their own 10.  No complaints necessary because if he doesn’t like that field position, he shouldn’t have out it down, and if Coughlin is upset he didn’t get the ball, he should have taken a bigger risk. This is a wild solution but it does indeed work.  When I consulted a professional opinion on the matter, Mr.

Early Offense Boosts Yankees in Subway Sweep

Chien Ming Wang has struggled mightily all year long, giving up run-after-run and never getting the mighty run support that he would need to pick up wins, as he as gone half way through the season and has accumulated a 0-6 record on the year and and ERA over 10. Sunday’s matchup was different however, as the Yankees offense posted three runs in the first inning, while Wang tossed a solid game, giving up two runs and picking up the win 4-2. Livan Hernandez suffered the loss for the Mets, while Mariano Rivera picked up his 18th save on the year
